- Commodity name: Sodium Bicarbonate for flue gas desulphurization
- CAS: 144-55-8
- EINECS: 205-633-8
- Formula: NaHCO3
- Molecular Weight: 99.0% min
Sodium bicarbonate (also known as sodium hydrogen carbonate or sodium acid carbonate) can be used in some cases for dry flue gas desulfurization. This method involves the reaction of sodium bicarbonate with sulfur compounds present in the flue gas to form less harmful products. Compared to other products used for flue gas desulfurization, mainly lime, sodium bicarbonate offers greater safety and lower toxicity as a less aggressive product, easier handling, higher availability and lower operational costs, good compatibility with existing equipment and, in terms of sustainability, less formation of harmful by-products.

Sodium bicarbonate is basically a chemical compound, which is also often known as baking soda, bread soda, cooking soda and bicarbonate of soda. We also nicknamed sodium bicarbonate as sodium bicarb, bicarb soda. Sometimes it is also simply known as bi-carb.The Latin name for sodium bicarbonate is Saleratus, which means, 'aerated salt'.
